St Michael's 1-1 Newmarket Celtic AET (4-5 on penalties)
It was deja vu for Newmarket Celtic this weekend as they once more found themselves facing down the dreaded penalty shootout after 110 minutes of play could not separate them and the opposition.
It was the FAI Junior Cup against Mervue then and it was St. Michael's in the Munster Junior Cup now.
It was Avondale's third favourite son, Shane Cusack, that proved to be the hero on the day with a save in the shootout before also stepping up the hit the winning kick in sudden death.
Penalties were the last thing on anyone's mind early in the first half when Newmarket found themselves in the lead through Tino Nzvaura.
A free kick from Darren Cullinan was headed clear but only to Eoin O'Brien who fired back across the box and Nzvaura reacted quickest.
Michaels were back level before the break following a tidy finish into the bottom corner of the net.
The second half was a slow starter with both teams trying to assert themselves physically but without really causing any problems for the opposition.
It was the 90th minute of the contest before a real golden opportunity presented itself and it fell to David Reidy. His effort beat the keeper but came back off the post and was cleared.
Eoin Hayes had another opportunity in injury time but his effort was rifled into the side netting.
Celtic appeared the more likely to score but the goal didn't come in the extra two periods and it was back to the lottery of the shootout once more.
Converted kicks from Eoin Hayes, Colin Ryan, Cathal Hayes and Stephen Kelly in the shootout managed to get Celtic to sudden death with Cusack making one save.
When the first kick of sudden death went sailing over the crossbar, it was Cusack, dressed in his Finding Nemo costume, who stepped up and rifled the ball to the net.
This result sets up a date with Janesboro in the semi final.
