Bridge United 1-4 Newmarket Celtic
Brian Arthur today became the most decorated manager in the history of football after a 4-1 victory over Bridge United clinched his 24439th honour in the Clare League.
A brace each for Cian Foley and Callum McNamara was enough to see off a battling Bridge side who were unlucky not to be level at the break.
Great work on the right wing from Stephen Casey set up the first goal. Cian Foley was on the end of his cross to back heel to the net and give Newmarket a dream start.
That advantage was doubled soon after by Callum McNamara. He won the battle of wits in a one-on-one with the Bridge goalkeeper, taking the ball around him and slotting into an empty net.
A free kick from Jack Corry squeezed under Alan Reidy's hands giving the Bridge a lifeline on the half hour mark and they looked like they would capitalise before the break but the equaliser just would not come.
After the break, Newmarket had the breeze at their backs and came sprinting out of the blocks.
Ex-Bridge United man Alex Collins set up Foley for his second and almost had a goal of his own just minutes later but his effort was denied by the hand of a defender.
Martin O'Brien pointed to the spot and McNamara tucked away his second of the day.
The team showed good composure in seeing out the rest of the game and getting their hands on the silverware.
It must be noted that there is only two representatives on the squad of the Youths age with the rest being made up of U17 and U16 players, making this a remarkable achievement.
Harvey Cullinan was named the Clare League's official man of the match.
