Mervue United 3-3 Newmarket Celtic (4-5 on penalties)
The A team qualified for the last four of the FAI Junior Cup following a dramatic comeback against Mervue United in Galway on Sunday.
An early goal from Mervue's Keith McHugh had given them the advantage before Celtic took full control without managing to convert any chances.
The game continued in that manner until the break with Eoin Hayes having Newmarket's best chance but his snap shot flew north of the cross bar.
Mervue could only withstand the pressure for 10 minutes in the second half before Tino Nzvaura capitalised to level the game.
The joy didn't last, however, as Mervue were ahead again within two minutes thanks to a header from Stephen Larkin. The visitors appealed for a free out after goalkeeper Shane Cusack came under a heavy challenge but the referee simply pointed to the centre circle.
And the lead was doubled just two minutes later when Barry Moran got on the end of a counter attacking move to slide the ball past Cusack and into the back of the net.
It looked as if it wouldn't be Celtic's day when Nzvaura's header went wide of the post before Eoin Hayes then hit the frame of the goal.
In the 71st minute, another set piece caused problems for Mervue and it was Stephen Kelly who applied the finishing touches to bring Newmarket back into contention.
And it was Nzvaura again with an overhead kick in the 88th minute to equalise and force the game to extra time.
Each side had a period of dominance in the extra time with Kelly heading over Newmarket's best chance before Cusack denied Mervue at the death.
Penalties it would be to decide the game and both sets of sides showed a cool head and steel nerve as only one shot from the spot was missed.
Cusack denied Mervue at the fifth attempt meaning that Garry Higgins had the opportunity to put the tie to bed and he made sure of it.
The lads will now play Pike Rovers in the semi-final in Jackman Park, Limerick on the week ending 8/9 April.
