Connolly Celtic 1-2 Newmarket Celtic B
Newmarket Celtic B followed up their impressive win against Moher Celtic last week with another hard fought victory against Connolly Celtic.
Assistant Manager to Johnny Ryan, son of Christy and Davy Ryan's other brother (Keith I think he's called) was scathing pre match in his observation of the warm-up.
"Harkin? He begs me for weeks for a chance to start a game and when we put him in, he shits himself and pulls out of the warm-up. It's a good thing there was nappies in the dressing room."
The nappies was a reference to the fact that Connolly's away dressing room also doubles as Kilmaley's playschool.
The opening goal for the visitors came from the spot after renegade centre half Conor Ryan was hacked down in the box. It was a clear penalty but there was no need for the big howl.
Following on from that, the game was over and back with both sides having good spells and neither really threatening the goal too much.
That was until Conor McCarthy was presented with a gilt-edged opportunity midway through the second half. He opted to keep the game interesting and attempted a no-look finish only to completely miss the open goal.
He managed to redeem himself (kind of) in the 90th minute when he drew a foul from a Connolly defender on the edge of the box which allowed Monty to smash home his second from the free kick.
There was still time for Connolly to pull one back which Conor Ryan immediately blamed Eoin Kelly for only to realise that his usual defensive partner wasn't even in the country.
Johnny Ryan entered the mixed zone after the game to chat to reporters.
"Nice to see Sparky and Hayzo actually finish out a game for once. I didn't want to be left on my own with your man again. He wanted to take Monty off you know?"
A vital three points for the B Team as they try and claw their way back into contention for the title to add to the League Cup which was already won this season.
