Newmarket Celtic 2-0 Shannon Town
Our U17 team booked their place in the last four of the cup with a 2-0 win over Shannon Town on Saturday afternoon.
Having had the lion's share of possession without making any clear cut chances, the deadlock was finally broken just before half time.
A quickly taken free kick by Callum McNamara set Rian Corey through down the left flank. He rifled the ball across the six yard box where Harvey Cullinan was running through to smash it into the roof of the net.
Following the restart, it was a case of deja vu as Newmarket held the ball well and moved around but once more without creating clear scoring opportunities.
As the game progressed into the later stages, gaps started to appear and the Shannon Town goalkeeper pulled off an array of fine saves to keep his team in the game.
The cushion of the second goal finally came in the last ten minutes when Darin Aylmer fired home and sent Newmarket through to a semi final.
This was a good result for the lads despite missing a couple of key players on the day.
